Simplicity of a Home Birth

I love the simplicity of a home birth. As I mentioned in Elena's birth, things went smoothly and quickly. A picture below shows what our midwife needed for the birth. She had a simple device that listened to the baby's heartbeat and the rest of the stuff was just to keep my wife and the baby clean. There were no machines that were strapped to my wife's arms or torso. No nurses that checked in every 20 minutes. Our midwife simply let Carol have her baby when she was ready.

Half an hour after my wife had the baby, she got in the tub, got dressed and freshened up. She fed Elena for about 45 minutes, gave her to her mom and walked to the kitchen to have lunch with us. I could not believe how quickly she became comfortable. Of course, we took the rest of the day slowly.

I am not saying it was easy. Carol worked hard and she was tired. But the simplicity of a home birth was very apparent from beginning to end. It was simply wonderful.
